Photography in the Cold

Saturday I woke up to the sun. SUN! First time in a month I have seen that burning ball of fire. As such I decided to put our other plan on hold, I was taking pictures of my jewelry. I have tried on and off for several weeks take pictures. Tried on a cloudy day, with bright photography lights bounced off a white ceiling etc all to no avail. I have been wanting to post more items for sale on my Etsy page but have been unable to take pictures of my work, and I am apposed to posting inferior pictures with a note saying 'sorry lighting was no good, tried real hard'. I believe its better to post nothing at all then a sad sad picture.

So anyway even though there was lots of sun, I knew that they were calling for about -13 (celsius) all day so I bundled up, 1 pair of sweatpants under a loose fitting pair of workout/yoga pants, a long sleeve shirt, hoodie sweatshirt, wool jacket, scarf and gloves and I was good to go. The morning started off not too bad. I cleared some snow from the patio table, took one of the chairs off the stack from under the eves (we have large eves, wasn't any snow on chair) and set about it. I didn't need the gloves and could unbutton my jacket a bit. My bum was frozen from sitting on an cold metal and webbing chair, so i padded it with 2 towels. It was cold enough however that some of the bracelets I put on the table when I cam out got stuck to the ice. Had to get my nail under it to pop it back off. The large square crystals of this bracelet were particularly bad. Too much surface contact I guess. Though I did end up taking some pictures of it on the table. I liked the way the Swarovski Crystals played off the ice crystals on the glass table.

About 2 hours in though it suddenly got wicked cold. Had to do everything back up, put on gloves and started to have problems with wind blowing over my home made light diffuser. Thankfully I only had another hour I worked before the sun got too high to continue. Still have another 20 or so earrings to take pictures of, but hopefully I can get at them tomorrow. Yesterday didn't get sunny until too late, and right now it is snowing and -6 out.

Here are some pictures from my adventure in fozen photography. I am very pleased with the results, but I will be happier when in the spring and summer so I don't have to freeze to get good pictures.

This is my parents dog Max "Helping" me all day

And then this is some of my jewelry I hope to be posting soon on Etsy
