So while I was in the hospital in 2010 I was trying to think of something to give my brother for his wedding. My brother is the guy who has just about everything and enough money to get what he wants. For my wedding he got me a sofa as we did not have one. I do not have those sorts of resources but I wanted to give him something that would have meaning takes a lot of work so I decided to make a throw blanket big enough for them to snuggle under. His wife is small enough that any throw would fit her, but my brother is 6'2" and he can choose to cover his legs or his body with most throws. I did not get their blanket done on time as they got married at the end of August 2011 and I finished it this week. BUT I thought I would share it with you now!
I used 3 different colours, a light grey, dark grey, and variegated dark purple (the colour from their wedding as it happens - totally not planned btw). Is Cascade Yarns and is Cascade 220. 100% Peruvian Highland Wool (which means they will have to wash cold and hang to dry or risk shrinking it to crib size). They recommended a size 7-8 US needle (4.5-5.0mm) but since i knit REALLY tight and I prefer more of an open weave I used a size 11 (8.0mm).
And to keep me humble a shot of one of the many mistakes I made and had to fix with thread and a needle... well kinda fix.
I am a beginner knitter really knowing only only how to cast on, bind off, kit and pearl. I cant read a pattern to save my life nor do I know how to increase and decrease. My goal is to learn to properly knit and make my bro some hand made socks. Ask him what he wants for Christmas every year and you get one of two answers: Nothing, OR, sock and underwear. I am telling you the kid has it all really. I think he would like the hand made socks AND it would just be cute and funny.
